🌟 The Neurodivergent Boom-or-Bust CycleEver have days where you feel unstoppable—hyper-focused, creative, and energised—only to crash hard after? That’s the Boom-or-Bust Cycle, and it’s super common in ADHDers, and others with neurodivergent brains.

💥 The Boom = high energy, intense focus, deep dives into interests, getting a lot done.

😩 Bust = exhaustion, burnout, executive dysfunction, maybe even shutdown.

Why does this happen?

Many of us push through fatigue or sensory overload to meet expectations—sometimes without realising we’re doing it. Masking, people-pleasing, perfectionism, or just being super excited about something can all play a part. The problem? Repeating this cycle can lead to long-term burnout, chronic fatigue, or even mental health challenges.

💡 What helps? We can’t always avoid the cycle—but we can work with it instead of against it.

🛠 Try pacing systems like:

  • Spoon Theory: Treat energy like a limited resource and spend it wisely.

  • Energy Accounting: Track energy in and out, like a bank balance.

  • Traffic Light System: Red = draining, Yellow = neutral, Green = recharging—mix wisely!

🧠 Know your patterns.💛 Build in rest before you crash.🔋 Balance high-output days with recovery time.

The goal isn’t to “fix” your energy, but to honour it. You deserve a rhythm that works for your brain and body.

Boom!
